The six official permit types
Law No. 6458 defines six residence permit types, each with its own conditions and duration:
- Short-term — up to two years per issuance
- Family — up to three years per issuance, tied to the sponsor's status
- Student — tied to the study period
- Long-term — indefinite, after eight years of uninterrupted residence
- Humanitarian — durations set by the Ministry
- Victims of human trafficking
