The six official permit types

Law No. 6458 defines six residence permit types, each with its own conditions and duration:

  • Short-term — up to two years per issuance
  • Family — up to three years per issuance, tied to the sponsor's status
  • Student — tied to the study period
  • Long-term — indefinite, after eight years of uninterrupted residence
  • Humanitarian — durations set by the Ministry
  • Victims of human trafficking
